Remembering Our Heroes
written by Josh Cejka
Today was a special day. Around 9 AM, much of the staff of All American Window and Door took a bit of time off from our busy schedules to attend the arrival of The Moving Wall, which we are enormously proud to help sponsor in our community.
Standing by the roadside underneath the giant American Flag, raised as an honor guard by the local police and fire department, we got to watch the approach of the caravan which included veterans from the Vietnam War rumbling through on motorcycles. Some of our employees even had the honor to help the Fire Department safely lower the flag, careful not to let it touch the ground.
The Moving Wall is a half sized replica of the Washington, D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial which has been touring the country for 35 years and we are deeply honored to bring it home to Germantown and Washington County to honor the 14 fallen heroes from our area who lost their lives in the war, as well as the countless others who came home again.
Along with the Moving Wall, which will be on display through Labor Day, there will be the Healing Field – a display of hundreds of American Flags and my personal favorite, American Huey 369 from Peru, Indiana. I can still remember my father, a corpsman, telling me stories of the Huey. To this day he can still identify when a Huey is around and exactly which direction its coming from – before anyone else can even hear it.
Please come down to the athletic field at Kennedy Middle School through Labor Day, September 5th to honor the sacrifice of the veterans and pay tribute to this era of our history.
